Recipes
This page is where I feature my favourite foods. I am not so much an inventor of dishes (although I admire people who do!) rather, I know what I like and I strive to recreate my inspirations in the kitchen. I derive a lot of satisfaction from making something that tastes just like it did on holiday, or as I imagine in the movies! Blueberry pancakes, for example, drizzled in maple syrup as you imagine in a New York diner. Usually, my methods involve taking two or three recipes that sound good and extracting the taking best bits from each of them, and improvising a little here and there. I think I get this approach from my mum, who is a fantastic cook and has a very naturally intuitive style!

My recipe binder is a project I’ve started to see if I can recreate / journal the experience of learning new dishes and memorising how to cook them. I don’t think recipe books are very logical, I never have – I like to see pictures in an order and have the steps explained to me. I like to see the list of ingredients at a glance, in the same place as I’d look for measurements and quantities. I like to be able to read through a recipe once and then kind of have a feel for what I’m supposed to be doing. So I’m setting out my recipes, one at a time, in the order I think they work best to me. If it works for someone else then I’m intrigued to hear about it!
